Hon. Mr. Akmal Ali
President and Founder
Mr. Akmal Ellyas Ali is a respected development and humanitarian nexus leader, recognised across the Pacific for his commitment to locally led action, diplomacy, and civic leadership. He is the Founder and President of the United Nations Association of Fiji (UNA Fiji) and currently serves as the Coordinator of the Facility Aiding Locally Led Engagement (FALE Pacific) a regional mechanism strengthening humanitarian coordination, localisation, and resilience across the Pacific Islands.
Since establishing UNA Fiji in 2014, Mr. Ali has transformed it into a leading platform for youth leadership and diplomacy. Under his guidance, the Diplomacy Training Programme, which includes Junior, Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced levels, has trained more than 500 participants from across Fiji. This flagship programme builds leaders who practice “leadership through the art of diplomacy with the spirit of leaving no one behind.”
At FALE Pacific, Mr. Ali oversees national hubs in Fiji, Kiribati, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, and Vanuatu, with expansion under way in Papua New Guinea. His work bridges the humanitarian–development–peace nexus, strengthening institutions and systems that empower communities to lead their own responses and influence regional policy.
A graduate of the University of the South Pacific, Mr. Ali also completed his Diplomatic Induction Training with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Fiji, which further refined his skills in protocol, negotiation, and international relations. He is also the Founding Secretary-General of the University of the South Pacific Students’ Association (USPSA) Federal Office, where he helped federalise student governance across 12 Pacific countries and 14 campuses a major milestone in regional student representation.
With more than 20 years of experience working with stakeholders from local to global levels, Mr. Ali is widely respected as a diplomat, civic thinker, and peacebuilder. His expertise spans Pacific development, governance, humanitarian coordination, policy advocacy, and global citizenship education.

Hon. Mr. Vipin Maharaj
Vice-President
Hon. Mr. Vipin Maharaj currently serves as the Vice-President of the United Nations Association of Fiji (UNA Fiji), where he plays a vital leadership role in advancing the organization’s mission and ensuring the effective coordination of its strategic and operational efforts. His responsibilities include supporting the President in administrative and policy matters, overseeing standing committees, and representing UNA Fiji at high-level forums and diplomatic events. His steady rise within the organization reflects both his dedication and capacity for progressive leadership.
Prior to his current role, Mr. Maharaj served as Secretary and Deputy Secretary of UNA Fiji, managing records, correspondence, and internal communications. A committed member since 2020, he has contributed significantly to the Diplomacy Training Programmes, serving as Assistant Coordinator in 2021, Coordinator in 2022, and Deputy Coordinator in 2023. His early involvement in the Hospitality Team demonstrated his team-oriented leadership and service mindset.
Mr. Maharaj is pursuing a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) at the University of the South Pacific, aspiring to specialize in criminal law and one day serve as Attorney-General. His academic pursuits are complemented by his practical engagement with human rights and governance networks. He represents UNA Fiji at the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) through the Pacific Human Rights Network, and serves as the National Youth Representative on the FALE Fiji Steering Committee.
He is a Board Member of the National Youth Council of Fiji (NYCF) and Chair of its Constitutional Review Committee, as well as the youngest Board Member of the Fiji Council of Social Services (FCOSS). Previously, he was the General Secretary-elect of the Youth Assembly of Fiji (YAF) and served on the USP Law Students Association Constitutional Review Committee.
Grounded in humility, fairness, and loyalty, Mr. Maharaj continues to champion youth empowerment, diplomacy, and human-rights-based leadership across Fiji and the Pacific.

Hon. Ms. Arci Singh
Secretary
Ms. Arci Singh currently serves as the Secretary of the United Nations Association of Fiji (UNA Fiji), where she holds a central role in maintaining the Association’s administrative records, managing correspondence, and supporting the coordination of meetings and official reporting. Her position is key to ensuring the smooth internal operations of the organization, where she combines attention to detail with strong communication skills.
Ms. Singh has been an active member of UNA Fiji since graduating from the Basic Diplomacy Training Programme in 2018. She currently serves as Deputy Coordinator of the programme, contributing to the training and mentorship of new cohorts. She believes the programme offers a valuable platform to understand the workings of the United Nations and helps bring out the hidden talents of individuals.
Academically, Ms. Singh is pursuing a Diploma in Prosecution at the University of the South Pacific, with aspirations to further her studies in Psychology. During her time at USP, she volunteered with the Campus Life Buddy Programme, helping first-year students transition into university life.
Professionally, she has been employed for the past two years as a Customer Sales and Service Representative at Mindpearl, where she has built a reputation for reliability and client service. Outside of her professional and academic commitments, Ms. Singh enjoys reading, watching movies, listening to music, and crafting.
Hon. Mrs. Vikashni Lata
Treasurer
Ms. Vikashni Lata is the Treasurer of the United Nations Association of Fiji (UNA Fiji), a role she assumed on 19 July 2025 after serving as Assistant Treasurer since October 2024. Her journey with UNA Fiji began after successfully completing the Basic Diplomacy Training Programme (BDTP) in 2024, which deepened her passion for leadership, diplomacy, and sustainable development.
The training enhanced her communication, negotiation, and cross-cultural skills, enabling her to present complex situations clearly and work effectively with diverse teams. It also strengthened her confidence, problem-solving, and relationship-building abilities, which she applies daily in coordinating projects and engaging with stakeholders.
As Treasurer, Ms. Lata oversees UNA Fiji’s financial management, budgeting, and reporting, ensuring transparency and accountability across all initiatives. Her commitment to sound financial governance supports the association’s continued growth and helps advance programs that empower young people and communities across Fiji. She is motivated by the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution and is passionate about enabling organizations to achieve their goals through strong and ethical financial management.
Professionally, she serves as a Statistician at the Fiji Bureau of Statistics, where she began her career as a Project Officer, later progressing to Assistant Statistician before assuming her current role. Her experience in national statistics, data analysis, and evidence-based policy contributes significantly to her approach to leadership and accountability.
She holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree, majoring in Accounting and Economics, and a Diploma in Business Studies (Accounting) from the Fiji National University. She has also completed a Certificate in Business Accounting (MYOB) and a Certificate in Computer Studies.
Outside of work, Ms. Lata enjoys socializing, travelling, sightseeing, gardening, and dedicating time to community service, where she finds fulfillment in helping those in need.

Hon. Mr. Mohammed Shameel Riyaz Ali

Mr. Ali began his journey in UNA Fiji in 2024 when he joined the Basic Diplomacy Training Programme, where he graduated as the Best Delegate of the Model UN Summations 2024. Since then, he has served as the Head of Communications for UNA Fiji.
He as inspired to join UNA Fiji because of his passion for driving meaningful change within society. UNA Fiji’s mission perfectly reflected his own belief in service, leadership, and global citizenship. Additionally, he is passionate about entering meaningful spaces that allow youths the opportunity to amplify their voices.
Mr. Ali served as the Youth Leader and Campaign Manager for the Nasinu Constituency for the Political Party- Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) in 2022 where he had the opportunity to mobilize youth to practice their constitutional right to vote. He worked alongside various Diplomats, Ministers, and former Civil Service Workers to formulate policies and campaign strategies to their successful campaign in 2022 where SODELPA was declared the Kingmaker in the 2022 elections in Fiji.
UNA Fiji amplified his ability to think strategically and pragmatically, including instilling him with diplomatic knowledge. Mr. Ali constantly uses the skills he obtained from UNA Fiji when handling aspects of the Communications Team.
Mr. Ali graduated in 2024 from the Fiji National University College of Medicine, Nursing & Health Sciences (Fiji School of Medicine) with a Bachelor Degree of Pharmacy.
He worked in the private pharmaceutical sector in Fiji under Noble Chemists and then transferred into the public sector where he is now currently completing his internship at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital (CWM Hospital).
During his high school education (Nasinu Muslim College), I was honoured to receive several academic distinctions, including Excellence Awards conferred by the then Minister of Education of Fiji in 2020. In addition, he earned multiple Distinction Awards and actively participated in inter-school academic competitions, which strengthened his commitment to learning and excellence.
He also served as the Vice President for the Student Council of Nasinu Muslim College in 2019.
Mr. Ali enjoys writing, and finds great enjoyment in immersing himself in nature, as it offers both tranquility and inspiration.

Hon. Mr. Salih Khan
Executive Committee Member
Salih Ilahi Khan is a dynamic professional whose career is built on a powerful blend of real estate expertise, entrepreneurial vision, and a commitment to lifelong learning. With five years of experience, he is a seasoned realtor, as the Manager Leasing & Senior Sales Consultant at Suva Realty Management Pte Limited (Lic #163), where he has proven his ability to navigate the complex real estate market with skill and precision.
Beyond his established real estate career, Salih is also a forward-thinking entrepreneur. As Director of Infinitude Building Solutions, he spearheads a company dedicated to project management and property renovation, showcasing his passion for building and development.
Salih continually invests in his professional growth. He is a 2021 graduate of the Basic Diplomacy Training Program (BDTP), An advanced Diploma of TOT( Trainer of trainers) and is currently a final year student pursuing his Bachelor of Laws (LLB) at the University of the South Pacific (USP). This is a testament to his ambition and drive a leader in real estate, a builder in business, and a scholar in the making.
Hon. Ms. Sweta Kumar

Ms. Sweta Kumar serves as an Executive Committee Member and Trustee of the United Nations Association (UNA) Fiji, where she has demonstrated strong leadership and dedication since joining the organisation in 2019. She has previously served as Treasurer from 11 November 2022 to 12 July 2025 and as Secretary from 7 August 2021 to 9 April 2022, and was appointed as a Trustee on 16 September 2022.
Sweta’s journey with UNA Fiji began after successfully completing the Basic Diplomacy Training Programme in 2019, an experience she credits for deepening her understanding of global issues, strengthening her leadership capacity, and inspiring her to serve with confidence and purpose. Since then, she has been an active advocate for youth engagement and diplomacy within the organisation.
She holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Management and Tourism Studies from the University of the South Pacific, where she was awarded the prestigious National Toppers Scholarship. Professionally, she is employed at Neptune Pacific Direct Line and has previously worked as a Finance Officer at Grace Road HQ and Cope Construction Pte Limited. She also interned as a Temporary Administrative Assistant with the Education Quality and Assessment Programme (EQAP) at the Pacific Community (SPC).
Originally from Anaconda Town, Navua, Sweta began her leadership journey during her school years at Vashist Muni College, where she served as Student Council Secretary (2019) and Assistant Secretary (2018). Beyond her professional and voluntary work, she enjoys dancing, swimming, listening to music, and participating in community initiatives.
Sweta continues to represent the new generation of Pacific leaders committed, capable, and compassionate embodying UNA Fiji’s vision of leadership through diplomacy and service.
Hon. Ms. Kelera

Kelera Tamani is an active and dedicated member of the United Nations Association of Fiji, currently serving as Deputy Secretary and Executive Committee Member. Originally from the island of Vanuabalavu in the Lau Group and raised in Namalata Village, Kadavu, Kelera brings a rich blend of cultural grounding, professionalism, and leadership to UNA Fiji’s work.
She previously served as Hospitality Coordinator from 2023 to 2025, where her warmth, organizational skills, and attention to detail helped strengthen member engagement and event coordination. Her continued service reflects her commitment to the mission of UNA Fiji and to promoting youth leadership, diplomacy, and civic engagement in Fiji and the wider Pacific.
Kelera holds an Advanced Certificate in Information Technology (2010) and completed Communication Skills Training at the Fiji National University (2012–2013). These qualifications have enhanced her ability to communicate effectively and adapt in diverse professional environments. She has also completed several capacity-building and professional development programs, including Basic Fire Extinguisher Training (2015–2016) and a Defensive Driving Course (2018), demonstrating her proactive approach to safety, learning, and personal development.
Her career experience includes roles such as Registry Officer (2010–present), Administrative Clerk at the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Forestry (2006–2007), and Receptionist at the New Zealand Pacific Technical College (2008–2009). These positions have equipped her with strong skills in office administration, records management, and customer relations.
Kelera is known for her integrity, punctuality, and detail-oriented approach. She is adaptable, creative, and passionate about teamwork, often mentoring others and contributing positively to any team she joins. Her dedication to continuous improvement has earned her recognition for leadership, creativity, and tolerance.
Outside her professional life, Kelera is a talented singer and an active member of the Apostles Fellowship International Church, where she contributes to community and faith-based initiatives. Her strong work ethic, compassion, and ability to connect with people make her an invaluable member of the UNA Fiji family.
